In the fourth version, to respond to the commissioning request from Asia Society (Hong Kong) in the thematic exhibition LOVE Long: Robert Indiana and Asia, Hung Keung remodelled the writing robot again and turned it into an art creation project with writing and moving images that allowed public participation. This was a new commissioned art project that encompassed interactive performance, installation art, experimental ink, photography, moving images and writing. Intrigued by the interconnectedness of time and space, as well as between the viewer and the work itself, moving digital images were incorporated to explore human limitations and attempt to extend them using robotic technology. This exhibition presents the most memorable works by the legendary American artist Robert Indiana (1928-2018) along with works by eight international renowned artists and collectives including Dr. HUNG Keung & Prof. Xu Bing (director of the Academic Committee at China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing). Dr. HUNG Keung is the only Hong Kong scholar & artist invited through peer group screening and selection by Dominique Chan and Miwako Tezuka. Dominique Chan is the Head of Gallery and Exhibition at Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, and Miwako Tezuka is the curator and the international well-known figure who is Director of PoNJA-GenKon, a global online network of scholars, curators, and artists. The fourth version of the Magnetic Pendulum Chinese Writing Robot was officially renamed as Control Freak, preserving the swing aesthetics of the positive and negative poles of the magnetic field, while incorporating new elements of computer software writing and mechanical milling devices. The artist followed the topic - LOVE - to define the ranges of mechanical and magnetic activities. The viewer, through operating the wooden rock arm, is able to manipulate the magnetic brush in all directions. Together with the principles of the magnetic poles and mechanical activities, the viewer is able to write the character ‘heart’ with the brush while resisting various forces.
